Are Black women too independent???
Or is there such a thing?
Some women can be so independent that there's no room for a relationship with a man . . . . not in the traditional sense . .
Some men like independent women . . . to a point . . . or do you?
Then some like the "take charge" woman or the "bread-winner" . . .
Do independent women know how to be wives and "take care" of their man?
I must say that I'm an independent woman, however I am independent because of how I was raised and because of the women and men that contributed to my upbringing. It has nothing to do with my education, my salary, or what I have purchased or able to purchase.
Because I am independent, I am able to work with and without my husband. Meaning when he is available, I depend on him and when he is not, I depend on myself and vice versa. At the end of the day, I have my say, but my husband has the final word and I support that. Now if his final word is wrong, I'm there to remind him of that, but not in the presence of others as I wouldn't appreciate that being done to me.

You're whole perception of Black women and independence more or less is applicable to that of an Caucasian Woman. Especially, when you take into consideration the fact that since the beginning of time and up to the present, the Black Women has been the backbone of this race and bares the responsiblity of standing by her man and nurturing her children.
Whereas, with the White Women, the entire structure of her life is completely different do to the luxuries that she was afforded due to the color of her skin and the texture of hair. It's up to her rather to live as Trailer Trash or a High Society Goddess. She is able to be more independent and everyman ( including her own) in the world won't regect her or discriminate against her and spoil her.

True. You can't have Yin without the Yang and without cause you won't have effect.

It's a good thing to be independent. Why wait for someone to cater to you when you can do for yourself? If that S/O were to die tomorrow, what would ya do? Cry the the blues because you have no education or work ethic under your belt? Didn't think so.

Right Sistergirl! As Blackwomen, we've always been independent as the sole backbone of our race and will continue to be as I said earlier in this thread. Our history is the legacy of our strength as Black Women and as a people.

Any woman that asserts how great and independent she is and could get along without me ends up doing just that. I want to know the content of her character not what she has or is capable of providing. All those things are worthless when it comes to whats needed to make things work. Any woman who has love or finding a man on her list of things to do underneath a list of tributes to her own ego I just steer clear of altogether.

I see your point. However, you can't tell some "independent" women or men that.

My question is are men in general threatened by a woman who seems to have the attitude that she can take them or leave them? Does it erode a guy's manhood to think that there are some women in the world who don't need a man to "take care of them"?
