There is nothing wrong with being independant as long as you do not try to shove it down someones throat all the time.

I am the first to take my hat off to black women for the amount of crap they've taken from black men and as a result society at large. However, I got to say, black women could be considered the backbone for black people, because they are second in command as per the perspective of the visible powers that be. Why? Because, they (black women) are not the antithesis of he that generally holds positions of authority in this country or through out the modern world. When black women mouthed off to master 150 years ago, she was beaten and sometimes raped by master. In SOME instances, depending on the severity of her actions in addition to mouthing off, she was killed.
When black men mouthed off to master he was beaten, castrated and maybe dismembered and defiled in other very inventive ways for all to see before he died. This happens literally and figuratively till this day in America and through out the rest of the world. At any rate, I guess all I’m saying is, when you say, “You are the backbone,” with such vigor and intensity, remember why you have that spot in all respects and respect these supporting and relevant factual dynamics. To do anything less, is forgetting the lengths to, which the black man has been debilitated and then castrated proverbially and literally in the last 400 to 500 years. THAT IS THE OPITOMY OF BEING TOO INDEPENDENT IN MY VIEW.
All that being said, as long as black women understand what’s been said above in addition to respecting those facts, she’ll never be “TOO INDEPENDENT.” As far as the vast majority of black women today are concerned, I’d have to say, they’re negotiating based on what they’ve become accustomed to from the vast majority of black men.
That, I can’t fault any of you for; truth be told, Black Women are doing what they have to do to survive in this cold disagreeable world.

Wow, that's it right there brotha
but I will say independence without any acknowledgement of interdependence is not healthy for the person
and will eventually erode the relationship

I agree Nudimmud with your comments. I too was caught up in that independent concept. I see now that there is no way we can survive as a people without a balancement between men and women. I hear a lot of my sisters saying stuff like I can make it on my own, I don't need a man etc. etc. etc.. I disagree you are not making it, IMHO, we are just surviving and for original people, that is equal to being the living dead. We need each other.
I just think we have to overstand that we are interpendent on each other.
My question is, what exactly is Independent in this society?
