Ms. Della Reese is battling Type 2 Diabetes.

“I am at war with diabetes,” declared Reese-Lett, addressing an auditorium of nearly 500 women. “It is so important to take care of our health.”...
“I was rushed to Cedars Sinai Hospital. The doctors checked me out and told me that I had diabetes. My blood sugar level was close to 500.”
Reese-Lett said that the diagnosis spurred her into action. “I started reading everything I could about Type II diabetes,” she said.

The rest of the story here

Ms. Della Reese is urging us (women and men) to take charge of our health. She is warning us to get our check up. Ms. Reese didn't know she was in danger of having the type 2 diabetes until she was on the taping of "Touch By An Angel" and fell out. She was rushed to the hospital and that when the doctor told her what she had. So now she is changing her eating habits and her lifestyle.
**************

I have a cousin whose mother is battling this deadly disease. She has already lost her sight and her legs. Ms. Della is right, we are at war with this and we must take charge. Is anybody here going thru this or maybe have a family member that is being diagnosed for diabetes? if so, how are you dealing with it?

I have heard it said plenty of times that diabetes is the easiest disease to get rid of.

One way is to rid yourself of it is walking some miles per day for about 6 or 8 months. Diabetes ain't nothing but a severe circulation problem and walking for at least 2 miles a day gets your blood circulating correctly.

Nice post. It's very tragic what happened to your cousins mom. But diabetes can be controlled via a change in lifestyle and ones eating habits. It is the scourge of the black community. Very rampant and pervasive. Education, exercise, proper eating habits and loss of excessive weight is the key to bringing this problem under control.
