Tony Dungy's Son Dies

James Dungy, the 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, was found dead at 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday in his apartment in Lutz, Fla., a suburb of Tampa, Debbie Carter, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Thursday.

A death investigation is under way, and the spokesperson said that the county medical examiner's office or the hospital at which James Dungy was pronounced dead would have a ruling on the cause of death.

James Dungy officially was pronounced dead this morning at University Community Hospital in Tampa.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. Indianapolis plays at Seattle this Saturday.

Yes, this is terrible. There are some reports that his son committed suicide. I didn't want to iunclude that since no ruling has been made.

That's terrible. Tony Dungy is not only one of the best head coaches (white or black) in the NFL, but he's a great human being. If you ever get a chance to listen to him, you will see that in him.

I just know the Indianapolis Colts organization and fans, if not the entire NFL will rally around him in support.

To have such a tragedy hit a great man deserving of so much is heartbreaking. My prayers are with him and his family.

There are reports out that this was a suicide. Any death is tragic but I hope this wasn't suicide.

I heard that he hanged himself. That is much for any family to endure.
