New York Knicks guard Quentin Richardson will be out of the team's lineup for an unknown amount of time following the murder of his older brother.
Chicago police said three suspects were in custody in connection with the killing of Lee Richardson, Jr., 31, who was shot outside the family's home Monday during a robbery.
This was the second time a Richardson brother was fatally shot. When Quentin Richardson was 12, his 23-year-old brother Bernard was killed in south Chicago. The case remains unsolved.
Richardson, 25, left the team Monday upon hearing the news, and missed Tuesday game against Seattle.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Lee Richardson Jr. and his father were outside their house Monday when a van pulled up and three men jumped out. Described as a music producer, Richardson Jr. fought back and was shot four times. Lee Richardson Sr. was unharmed.
Three men were arrested on Monday and charges had not yet been filed Wednesday morning, Chicago police spokesman Hector Alfaro said.
Quentin Richardson is in his first season with the Knicks after playing last season in Phoenix. He was averaging 6.9 points in 14 games.
In a six-year career that began with the Los Angeles Clippers, the DePaul unversity product has averaged 12.3 points-per-game.
Richardson made headlines off the court in 2004 when it was reported he gave pop singer Brandy a $1 million US engagement ring. The couple has since split up.
