We must first remember that this is a new form of transferred slavery, where my strong beautiful black brothers are bought and sold without much consent. As a result over the years we have been seeing the draft picks becoming younger and younger, because these money hungry managers and agents want to deal with "children" not men, less stress for them and easier to control players. We must remember a 17 & 18 yr old only want some ladies a car and some money, they are easily manipulated and ripped off by many.
On the New Dress Code I totally agree, out of evil commeth good, It may be the best thing to aid these children in becoming more of business men. We have heard about "dressing the part" before.
Secondly for those who articulated that the YT man racist agenda is rearing again, I think we need to ask the question Who benefits from the millions spent in the sport clothing industry, i am almost sure it is not us. The fact that these players are "role models" (not for my children though) I personally think the WRONG example is being sent by their current style.
We need to always look at our attrie/clothing as a WAR-DROBE. And certain imagery will get us back on the plantation waiting for salvation but there are other clothing that will get us into MASSa's house with the explosives to end that system without massa's even batting an eyelid with any concern.
Just my 19 cents
peace

to Quote Dr.Martin Luther KIng Jr:it should be Content of Character not your skin or your Clothes.the Argument is over clothes.if the Dallas Mavericks hadn't accepted two sets of clothes from Sean Puffy Combs then I wouldn't think much on things.but the saem David Stern that is pushing this Code just a year-two Prior had accepted clothes from a Artist from the Hip-Hop Community.you can't have your Cake&Eat it as well.

it's a Mental control that David Stern wants.things start one way&then lead to more extremes.started off with the Age increase, then you get the Clothing&then there will be other things.all part of keeping the Black Athelete into a Box.

All employers have a dress code, period. It started with those daggum baggy shorts which are so baggy now they look like pants, to tats and cornrows. While there is nothing wrong with that, it does go to the whole issue that we were talking about in the Oprah and Luda thread. Appearances matter. Plain and simple.
As a supervisor I can honestly tell you that how you dress for your job directly relates to how well you do your job. It's called self respect, work ethic, esteem. I'm actually really quite sick and tired of these over paid ego maniacs thinking that the sun rises and sets with their issues. They make millions and still complain about something.....to me that's petty. The every day people I work with complain about their dress code and where I work it's pretty lax - and I've had to send people home who thought they could come to work in their pajamas....HAIL NO-----PERIOD. If you want a job where you can wear your pajamas to work, then you better try self employment. If you look sloppy you will not care about the work you do, and in my experiences, sloppy dresses tend to be negative as well as more concerned about themselves and collecting their check than doing their job that they were hired to do.
What's even funnier (not ha ha funny, but sad funny) is that this isn't a black thing, and has nothing to do with whether Steve Nash deserves the NBA MVP award (which he did - Shaq needs to have one injury free season in his career and be consistently do his job day in and day out and not expect that it will just happen because he's SHAQ), it has to do with your employers expectation of what they want to see. Stern, for all his stupidity, is correct. But it doesn't matter if Bill Cosby, or Stern says it. Heck, my daddy's been sayin it for the past twenty and no one criticizes him, but I guess that's because he's old school. Either way, it's not a black and white thing...It's a real thing....

I agree.
I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. Who are the NBA, not employers? And are he players not employees? So then the employers has the right to have a dress code and that dress code should be adhered to when they are fulfilling their duties and when they are representing the company.
Now if the NBA were telling these players what to wear during their personal time, when they are away from the field, that would be a different matter all together.

i made the point over&over again&again.the NBA allowed the Dallas Mavericks to accept uniforms twice from Sean Puffy Combs. they allowed that merger of Culture.they have been Embracing Hip-Hop Culture elements as part of the Game.you can't start white-Washing things after allowing things for Years.all I say is that if you had a Cress-Code in place then it should have been there already.I wouldn't be surprised that if David Stern starts telling players what to wear during there Off time.He is a Real Dictator.

I understand where you are coming from. Maybe they are thinking that the culture is becoming too prominent, hence why they feel a change is in order?

i think that Fight in Auborn Hills between the Pacers&Pistons is the result of this going down. the Detroit Pistons don't even play in Detriot.they play in the Burbs&somehow I truly believe that whole incident is payback.somebody got into David Stern's Ear behind that. Peace

All jobs have a dress policy. Outside of what goes on at courtside, I don't see where they have the right to mandate a dress code for others.I just think the NBA is going about solving their issues in the wrong way. Making a pro ball player wear a suit isn't going to change perceptions or make them more professional.
It all seems a bit like white owners trying to treat adult black men like subordinates.
That being said, this fiasco will not solve anything at all.
