Many HBCU's have football games that have been labeled "The Classic." They represent competition between major rivals and have turned into big reunion events.
Today in Raleigh, it was the Aggie-Eagle Classic. NC A&T State University "Aggies" against NC Central University "Eagles." I didn't attend an HBCU, so I missed the HBCU football game experience until recent years when I have attended The Classic. My sons attended A&T and NCCU, so it doesn't matter which side I root for. It's just a great game no matter who wins.
In the past, we got the first available seats through ticketmaster that got us on the side of the stadium nearest the parking lot. Last year, we noticed that the other side of the field was in the shade for the last half of the game, so this time we got smart. Every seat in the house is the same $35 except for the student tickets. This time we were on the 50 yard line on the side in the shade. And I didn't have my camera.
The game was great, the battle of the bands was outstanding. There is nothing like an HBCU band!! And no cheerleading squad can shake booty like those girls. The first line squad, the pom-pom girls, the flag girls...the only thing that bothered me was all the fake hair. To see those chirren dance with those heavy drums...does a mother's heart good.
By the way, the Eagles won 23-22.
