Student Suspended Over Call to Mom in Iraq
COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A high school student was suspended for 10 days for refusing to end a mobile phone call with his mother, a soldier serving in Iraq, school officials said.

I guess they don't have any concern for the boy and his mother. No empathy whatsoever.

Exactly. I'm thinking that's the reason he acted the way they described when they took him to the office.

I heard this morning on CNN that they reversed the decision, and he's not suspended after all. You would think they would be more sensitive, considering that more than 3700 students in the district belong to military families.

Now lets look at this from another angle. Given that the kid is only 17 and probably not much at being diplomatic. He could have said to the teacher, hay, this is my mom who is deployed in Iraq and I can't call her back or talk to her leter, would you like to get on the phone and verify that. Then the teacher should have made an exception and just taken him to the office where he could talk in private. No on the other hand, if the teacher acted an *** and said get the "f" off the phone, took it from him, and took him to the office, then he should have cold cocked her and said now ya got something to suspend me for!!
Many times kids are not as diplomatic as they should be, but on the other hand people in positions of authority typically like to exercise that authority without being very smart and prudent with it.

Yes, tinkertoy he could have done that however maybe he had not spoken to his mother in a while. He was no doubt very glad to hear from her I think that the teacher was out of line and the whole thing was blown way out of proportion by the teacher who was trying to so call lay down the law to the student and this teacher was wrong and should have been suspended. this child is under stress because his mother is at war for this country. Now had this been a white child they would have put it on the news that the parent called the child at school and they would have been wow this is great. I don't think that the kid cussed that teacher either that is just something that they are throwing in there to make it seem like this kid is a trouble maker. this looks bad for the school system they choose the wrong kid and time to start there crack down on cell phone use in school plain and simple. this could have been handle better.
