Let us do remember that most (if not all) of our people were opting out for (mere) acceptance aka Civil Rights--not clamoring for (black) power--back when there were active movements-- and they among its supporters...

Flasforward, and though times have changed, perhaps those now aging mainstays of the one (which has also been written on elsewhere) feel and think their roles have either not changed, or there's no longer a reason for those old mainstain organizations to exist anymore!

Ditto some of those of the other viewpoints do seem and sound even more defeatist
(as well as do nothing via their usual rhetoric ad naseum)?

In either case:

Methinks the mainstays of both are either out of sync as regards what the colored and black masses are truly concerned and worried about these days (or just out of touch with reality completely)!

So for me to say and write we both new leaders and new ideas and a new agenda etc.
helping us to cope and deal with the issues and problems facing up ala 2008 is a very profound understatement!!

But I just did anyway...

And the rest of you for your wake up calls too!

FYI...

Another one from an ally and a friend of the family...

Later...

I don't believe a violent rebellion will take place. But it certainly wont be business as usual either. Action will be taken.

If you don't mind brother DA Flash, I have a different take on the 92 "riots". 1992 was actually an uprising, IMO. I would like to recommend an excellent documentary titled "The Fire This Time: Why Los Angeles Burned".

I had recently moved from NY to Southern Cal - attending school locally at the time. People in LA were under the false impression that the brothers were rioting because of Rodney King. This is false. Rodney King was just the prelude to a half-dozen incidents against Blacks that led up to the rebellion. On top of the high unemployment and daily police brutality against Blacks in LA, I'm sure you recall the porous relations between the African American community, LAPD, City Hall and Korean store owners.

The year escapes me at the moment but it was shortly before the Rodney King beating when the Sheriff's Department shot 30 rounds or so from the street into a crowded grocery store killing several innocent people in South LA. Sheriff Deputies were exonerated. No justice for Black folk. The Korean merchant who shot a young Black girl in the back of the head. The Korean merchant was exonerated. No justice for Black folk. Popular community activist harassed, charged and jailed with bogus crimes. Neutralizing positive Black activism.

If my memory serves me correctly the brothers didn't plan a violent rebellion if those pigs in the King trial were acquitted. I was working in Downtown LA. I would talk to the brothers on the street everyday. The uprising wasn't pre-planned but you could sense in the air something big was about to pop off. Tensions had been building up for quite some time long before Rodney King. King was simply the straw that broke the camels back. I'm not saying the rebellion was right of wrong. However when people have no hope, feel oppressed and disenfranchised with the system, rebellions are as natural as the sun rising.

Peace.
Thank you for the response, I call it riot, you call it uprising. While I understand the reasoning behind the words, it's symantics to me. You're correct in your asessment of the climate here in So Cal at the time, there were alot of us "sick and tired" of the crap that the LAPD was pulling, even though I've always found the sherriffs to be far more a-holes and racist punks. You could feel the tension in the air.It still surprises me how the media showed far more of us looting than the Latinos!! If you witnessed any of it first hand, you know that there were at least as many of them as there was of us.

The reason that I made the post was, even though everyone understands the frustration of these cowardly act of Black hate, we need to do something constructive instead of destroying the community in which we live. I remember alot of people who could no longer shop for food, clothing, etc in the community anymore because most if not all of the stores were destroyed. Then where do we go to shop? the yt stores! The destruction of businesses in the community also kills most of the teenage jobs. As if our teens need more idle time.

I will admit that there were the liquor stores that I didn't mind seeing burn!

Update:Jay-Z Sets Up Educational Trust Fund For Children Of Shooting Victim

Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter has established an educational trust for the for the children of Sean Bell, the unarmed African-American man who was shot and killed by police on the day he was to be married.

According to AllHiphop.com, Jay-Z is working closely with Nicole Paultre Bell, Sean Bell's widow, to institute the trust funds for both of their children.

Nicole Bell appeared prominently in Jay-Z’s Rocawear "I Will Not Lose" advertising campaign with images that caused indignation within the NYPD's Benevolent Association.

The process began prior to the not guilty verdict for three police officers accused of slaying Sean Bell.

A well-informed source close to the matter told AllHipHop.com that Nicole Bell’s lawyers didn’t want to initiate any activity during the trial.

Typically, a trust fund is regarded as a long-term, profitable program that can provide significant monies that vest when a child becomes an adult or graduates from college.

They can also become available at a designated point in the future. Trusts, educational or otherwise, are generally set up in the child's name, by their parents or others close to the child.

Now that the trial is over, Jay-Z will resume his efforts for the children of Sean Bell in the form of a stock-based trust fund.

Judge Arthur Cooperman acquitted NYPD officers Mike Oliver (who fired 31 shots at Bell), Gescard Isnora (11 shots) and Michael Cooper (four shots) in a case that has instilled nationwide outrage in Bell’s supporters.

Two other men were shot in the shooting, where the police were charged with manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment.

In the aftermath of the Sean Bell verdict, the Hip-Hop nation has responded en mass with songs, statements and protests.

Those that disagree with the verdict include The Game, David Banner, Swizz Beatz, Talib Kweli, Styles P, Jadakiss, Mos Def, and countless others.
