LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A judge on Monday approved a $660 million settlement between the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and more than 500 alleged victims of clergy abuse, the largest payout yet in a nationwide sex abuse scandal.
"This is the right result," said Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Haley Fromholz.
"Settling the cases was the right thing to do, and it was done by dint of a number of extremely talented and dedicated people putting in an awful lot of time."
The deal came after more than five years of negotiations and is by far the largest payout by any diocese since the clergy abuse scandal emerged in Boston in 2002.

I heard on the news that Lawyers received 40% of the suit. Lawyers make no exception in their ability to exploit any opportunity to it's maximum.
I'm not sure what part of this story is saddest:
It's terrible that so many people were violated by people who they trusted the most. And yet, why aren't these religious figures in prison?
It's terrible that every religion known to man has been used for man's selfish, and often sick, personal gains.
It's terrible that people are seeking monetary damages for something that no amount of money can replace or repair.
It's terrible that in Amerikkka, Christian leaders seem to get a pass, while other religious leaders get much more negative exposure when their deeds are bad or worse.
This is yet another example of what happens when man applies his own meaning and purpose to the definition and purpose of any religion.
