Genarlo Wilson Injustice Overturned, But Appealed
Anyone remember Genarlo Wilson? Oh, he's just a black (was) teenager who had consenting sex with a 15 year old white girl over 2 years ago and has been imprisoned since then, labeled as a child sex predator. His sentence was for 10, yes TEN years. At the time he was 17, and she was 15. They tried to get him for rape, but the white girl admitted she consented to giving him oral sex. And it was filmed by another kid in the room.
Whites went mad and threw the book at him anyway; tossing him in jail. THis kid, now a man, was a football star, had a 3.2 gpa and was being scouted by some colleges for a football scholarship.
To this day, we have Ga. Congressman that still use the term 'rape' even though he was never found guilty of rape.
It get's worse, Shortly after Wilson was incarcerated, Georgia lawmakers, realizing the foolishness of the law, repealed it, but never thought it would be fair or just to repeal this kids sentence.
Well, Yesterday, a Circuit Judge ruled that the sentence was void as it was , in his view a gross carriage of injustice.
And get this, the Georga Attorney General, a BLACK man, has filed an appeal to keep this kid, now adult, in prison. His reason for doing so is citing jurisdictional technicalities. Yes, there are uncle Toms everywhere.
AJc story here.

Me too. What a horrible thing and grave miscarriage of justice.

I was so happy to find out that young man was going to get out of prison to move on with his life only to feel a stabbing pain in my chest when I kept reading and saw a Black man wanted to keep him in prison. What has this world come to? I'll continue to pray for that boy and his family. He shouldnt be in jail for this.

I worked as a counselor in the Georgia Prison system and there are so many young brothers on serious lockdown for this same offense.
One day someone/The Adults will teach these kids to leave these white girls alone and to stop badgering the ones who are attempting to teach the children. That is the only reason he is in prison because the girl is white.
He would have stood a better chance if he had been taught the reality of racism white supremacy instead of the illusion that we are all one and on equal footing.

Such an Uncle Tom; it would be interesting to know what those jurisdictional technicalities are.

I watched this on the news yesterday. I shook my head and mumured out that nothing has changed. That pain in which the young man's family is experiencing is the same pain i saw in my husband's face when he was warning his daughter ..who has a mixed child by a white man...that there is still some prejudice in white people and he(the baby's father) was one of them. She ignored her father and went out with him anyway. He talked her into sex and she ended up pregant with his child..He and his family was nasty toward her and they denied her child. It was a sad reality slap in her face but she brushed herself off and learned to be a good mom to her with our support.

Yea, I saw this on the news yesterday I believe. I think the whole statutory rape thing should be repealed throughout the United States, or at least be looked over and rewritten. I mean what the hell is the problem? It was consenting sex on both their parts, so how in the hell is anybody being called a "predator" because of it?
When I was watching the news, they didn't even have to finish telling the story because I knew it was one of those, the guy is a little older, the girl younger, and even though both consented, the guy is put in jail. Crazy I tell you.

Just clearing up a factual error:
Wilson to stay in prison at least till July | ajc.com

Critics have argued that Wilson's case has been influenced by race because he is black. But prosecutors deny that allegation, pointing out that all the defendants and the victims in the case —- and the attorney general —- are African-American.

Hearing could free teen held in sex case | ajc.com
Quote:
The victim's family is also declining to talk to the media about the case, said Douglas County District Attorney David McDade, whose office prosecuted Wilson.
McDade said race did not play a role in Wilson's case, pointing out that all of the defendants and both victims are black.
"I said early on in this case if I or this office had turned our heads and looked the other way when these two young ladies and their families cried out for help," he said, "I would have justifiably been accused of putting a deaf ear to African-American victims."
|
A bigger question is "Why are Black teenagers videotaping themselves performing sex acts in hotel rooms and partying with alcohol and marijuana on New Year's Eve? Is that the kind of behavior young Black honor students should be engaging in?"
One would think this case would be a giant wake-up call to parents and teenagers alike, male and female.
Despite this, Mr. Wilson should definitely be set free. This whole situation is a perfect example of prosecutorial overkill. The DA is wrong to appeal this. He needs to just let it go. Any justice the victim might have sought has long been fulfilled.
