It's really unfortunate that it's being appealed. However, he did break the law and he engaged in risky behavior and put his on future on the line. I don't think he deserves anymore time for what happened and i'm disappointed in the "brotha" who is going after him.

The latest development is that this girl's mother thinks that the sentence is too harsh. I'm suprised by that--I figured she would want him to stay in jail. If she were a better mother, her daughter wouldn't have been chasing boys down and she would have the ability to not engage in sexual acts with different boys. The girl definitely wasn't innocent and she wasn't a victim. That boy didn't prey on her. It's wrong for his life to have been ruined like this.

Ahhhhhh this land ruled by laws and not men. I wonder is age 13 still a legal age to marry in Mississippi?
Men and women formulate and finalize what's legal. I dunno, but wouldn't doubt the yt woman wasn't a virgin.

Genarlo Wilson spoke from jail on NBC's today show Today and he spoke so eloquantly and like he had regret but was yet optimistic about his outcome. God Bless this young man and hils family.

A bigger question is "Why are Black teenagers videotaping themselves performing sex acts in hotel rooms and partying with alcohol and marijuana on New Year's Eve? Is that the kind of behavior young Black honor students should be engaging in?"
One would think this case would be a giant wake-up call to parents and teenagers alike, male and female.
Despite this, Mr. Wilson should definitely be set free. This whole situation is a perfect example of prosecutorial overkill. The DA is wrong to appeal this. He needs to just let it go. Any justice the victim might have sought has long been fulfilled.

What Factual Error are you ' clearing up'?
And why is the 'bigger question' what kids chose to do to celebrate, regarding that they weren't out hurting anyone or doing hard drugs?
Kids, partying, smokine weed, drinking and video taping is common. Hell I remember doing all this back in 85. I think you are missing the obvious here: That although he was a typical teenager in that he liked to have fun, he was an honor student, never allowing peer pressure, girls, drugs, or other adolescent distractions to pull him from being a great student and potential college bound athlete. Simply put, he was a great kid.
And just because porch nikkahs were in the driving seat, don't mean it wasn't racism. I live in Atlanta, and I can tell you that the 'establishment' feels what he did was rape. Some of these people are actually in our government.
And in spite of the fact that this Georgia law was repealed, he still sits in jail. It's the same ole formula of twisted forumla of justice.

Yes indeed.
Just more political posturing from yet another politician seeking higher office (i.e., Governor). He wants to show these rural white folk (from south Georgia) that he shares THEIR values. Funny thing is, he's cutting off his nose to spite his face by pursuing this case. He's trying to placate the rural white vote on one hand, while alienating the black vote on the other. And he can't win statewide office (in this state) without a heavy black vote.
I'm a black voter here in the state of Georgia, and he has definitely lost mine after this. I can't bring myself to vote for an unadulterated lawn jockey.

20,000 to Free Genarlow. Can you help make it 30,000?
Free Genarlow Wilson -
Demand Attorney General Thurbert Baker drop his appeal. Add your voice now!
Genarlow Wilson remains in prison for a victimless crime: participating in consensual oral sex with a 15 year old when he was 17. After a Superior Court Judge voided his conviction on Monday, Georgia State Attorney General Thurbert Baker appealed the ruling over the outcry of thousands of Americans, with no reasonable justification.
Keeping Wilson in prison does nothing to keep Georgia safe. It simply continues the unnecessary destruction of a young man's life. Join us in demanding that Baker withdraw his appeal now.
Here is the text of the email we'll send to Attorney General Baker, unless you create your own statement.
Dear Attorney General Baker,
Justice was finally served on Monday when Superior Court Judge Thomas H. Wilson declared Genarlow Wilson's felony conviction and 10-year prison term a clear miscarriage of justice and ordered him released from prison. Judge Wilson's ruling noted that if "any Court, cannot recognize the injustice of what has occurred here, then our court system has lost sight of the goal our judicial system has always strived to accomplish... Justice being served in a fair and equal manner."
As Attorney General, you have the obligation to represent the interests of the state of Georgia, and the discretion to pursue this appeal or help ensure a speedy release for Mr. Wilson. Appealing Judge Wilson's ruling does not protect any Georgians, denies a young man full of promise the ability to move on with his life, and stands in the way of justice being served.
Thousands of Georgians, along with others across the country, have recognized the miscarriage of justice represented by the Genarlow Wilson case and have asked for his release. I expect that you, as Attorney General, will consider the interests of the people of Georgia, and your moral obligation to act for justice, in carrying out your duties.
It's time for this unfair, unjustified ordeal to stop. Please, drop your appeal, and allow this young man to go home and proceed with his life.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
