C'mon Tyra Ain't FAT!!!

I saw her show today, and she discussed the photos and articles. She wore the swimsuit in question and showed all of the untouched photos. She has a "real woman" body, just like the rest of us...some flaws, some beauty. The thing that stuck out in my mind, though, was that she didn't take the victim role. Instead, she said, "I can accept the criticism, but it's intolerable because too many young girls look up to me. When I'm getting letters and emails saying that they appreciate the fact that I have curves because it makes them feel good about themselves, and the media puts out the fact that I'm 'fat' as a result of the same, it sends the message that they are fat as well." She went on to say that they could "kiss her FAT ***." The rest of the show talked about eating disorders, how they develop, etc. It was quite interesting...


And I agree, she's a nice looking woman. We all have flaws. Heck, if someone decided to put a camera on me and publish my photos untouched...I'd HATE to see the related article. SMH

Tyra is quite the businesswoman. I'm sure she'll find some way to make a dollar off of this, much the way Whoopi Goldberg and Kirstie Alley did with their weight issues (i.e., Slim Fast and Jenny Craig respectively). And don't forget the "miraculous" loss of weight by Sarah Ferguson after she teamed up with the Weight Watchers Corporation. One day, before you know it, you'll see a slimmer, trimmer version of Tyra Banks. And she'll attribute that weight loss to some patented weight loss program as part of a well-run marketing scheme.

Get ready for the before and after shots of Tyra in the midst of a clever, marketing campaign. I can hear the cash register ringing now. :whistling

That is exactly what I was thinking. Soon, we'll see the weight off.

I'm only 5' 10", not too bad. LOL

We work in stones over here.
She says she's 161 lbs which is 11.5 stones. I'm 10.5 stones, which means she is 1 stone heavier. I can see where the extra stone is. It is all over her body, but she looks bigger than 11.5 stones.

I am small at the top, most of the weight is on my hips.

She's fat to me. But the point is, she's not ashamed. Fat people are not perfect, just as fit people are not.

And obesity is NOT a disease. It's a byproduct of certain behaviors like most things in life.

I think it's great that she accepts who she is, with pride, and can stand up against those that seek to make her feel bad about herself.

People need to know that Tyra is a beautiful sculpture of virtue. She is very blessed physically and mentally. We need to appreciate and diminish the hate. She is representing our sisters well

Tyra is neither fat or overweight IMO and that is the point she was making. Damage is done when people label "HEALTHY" ……. fat or overweight.

She falls within the normal weight guidelines for her height considering genetic factors like bone density, etc. Any critique that says Tyra is "fat" says you have to be smaller than Tyra to be considered "non-fat" which according to the Euro-Anglo standards is good.

Our Sisters have to struggle with a culture that tells us something is wrong with the genetic make-up of our Creator-made bodies if they do not line-up with the Euro-Anglo standards…. and that is SO damaging to our collective self-esteem as a people.

As a woman of African descent, I am the original Mother Earth everything else is a knock off. The mitochondrial DNA that runs through my veins come from the original Eve found in the remains of Africa and scientific findings back that up.
The Euro-Anglo women want what the Creator gave me naturally so they redefine the norm for their benefit yet covet what we have naturally.
