The World Oldest, Ever Documented Human Dies 128 years old
Born January 27, 1875
Dominica, W.I.
By the way the second oldest person in the world, Rose Peter at 118 years , is also from Dominica

Dominica was plunged into sadness on Tuesday 14 October 2003 with the death of Ma Pampo, its oldest resident. Elizabeth "Pampo" Israel, born on January 27 1875, 41 years after slavery was abolished in the West Indies, was 128 years of age.

In 2000, Time Magazine acknowledged Ma Pampo then aged 125 as the world's oldest human. However the Guinness Book of World Records has withheld its official designation, citing a lack of documentation. A state funeral was held for her on 22 October 2003. May she rest in peace.

The World Oldest, Ever Documented Human Long before the drafting of The Emancipation Proclamation, the grandmother of Elizabeth "Pampo" Israel was transferred to the Caribbean Island of Dominica. Although there are no available data that could accurately determine the correct date of birth of Elizabeth's grandmother, it is believed that she was born between 1770 and 1775. Dr. Lennox Honychurch, Dominica's and one of the Caribbean's leading historians is better placed to deal with the issues of Dominica's historical past, which is very well captured in his publication entitled "The Dominica's Story". Therefore, no further attempts on all part will be made to indulge in Island's historical domain.

January 27th, 1875, was the date that Dominica saw the birth of its most illustrious daughter, Elizabeth Israel. According to official records of The Roman Catholic Church (Roseau Diocese), Magdeline Israel, mother and an undocumented father gave birth to baby Elizabeth. Although Elizabeth's mother resided on The Colihaut Estate situated on the west coast of Dominica, she while in an advance state of her pregancy with Elizabeth; migrated (by foot) to an area of The Picard Estate called Tibay. It was in Tibay that "Pampo" was born and being the first of her mother's six children, she enjoyed the luxury of their trash covered, mud-paved house.

"Pampo" grew up to be the second mother of the family making way for her mother to continue her duties as a laborer on the Picard Estate, where she worked for less than a penny a day. It was not long however, at the age of 12 that Elizabeth who was then a student at the Portsmouth School, joined the labour force on the same Estate. School days for "Pampo" was over and it was survival time. The years were long, time was hard but with determination, sweat, and courage "Pampo" persevered. Her direct quotes will fully disclose those years of trials. To obtain an audio copy (caskette) of "Pampo's" original and first recorded interview, email or mail a request.

126 years after her birth, this lady is still alive and well. Pampo the world oldest, ever documented human, currently resides in Gladvillia, Dominca, W.I. Before 1999, however, little was known of "Pampo": She existed as a quiet wonder or dormant volcano until the eruption of her story on December 18, 1999. This granddaughter of an African slave is presently a modern day mystery, and her story is only beginning to unfold. To read more on Elizabeth "Pampo" Israel go to http://www.latimes.com/archives, keyword Elizabeth Israel or Dominica.

The Pampo Foundation

Objectives and Purposes of the Pampo Foundation

The Pampo Foundation is a non-profit charity geared at promoting mainly the long life mystery of Elizabeth "Pampo" Israel and other Dominican centenarians.

Pampo, who was born on the 27th day of January 1875, is the World's oldest ever documented human (according to Neil Haynes - Spokesman for Guinness World Records in London, although Guinness has not conferred that official title on her) and the foundation will frantically promote her as a genuine gem and a real wonder in the Nature Isle.

The foundation will also promote Pampo as a Dominican Treasure and no efforts will be speared at capitalizing on her amazing achievement. Pampo is indeed a hero and advancements will be made at endorsing her as a certified National Emblem in whose honor a National Holiday should be declared. The Foundation will also seek to advise that Pampo be awarded the highest Award in the Island of Dominica (The meritorious Award).

The foundation expects to work with Government to ensure coherence in the promotion of this stalwart woman and will make representations on her behalf at every forum.

The foundation will work for or towards the long term good of Pampo, her generation and the other Dominican centenarians and their relatives at all times.

The foundation will endeavour to coordinate all media releases, promotion and other such activities on behalf of Pampo and will responsibly inform her relatives and friends of its every activity.

The foundation will lobby on the behalf of Pampo at all times for any and every benefit associated with such a long life feat including official recognition by Guinness World Record and other such organizations. Each year, the foundation will organize a Cultural Exposition honor of Pampo, to coincide with her birthday.

It will be the responsibility of the foundation to embark on a full-scale program of education with respects to the amazing facts about Pampo and the other Dominican centenarians such as Rose Peter from Glanvillia who was born on February 21st 1893 and had survived 118 years to the date of the foundation. The Foundation will also pay very close attention to Rose Peters, she being the second oldest person in Dominica and the world. Her legacy is also very important to Dominica and we will promote her alongside Pampo and our other major long life achievers.

Education is key of the Pampo Foundation with its target demographics being School age children, students at all levels and other interest groups. In that light, the foundation has so far embarked on a Caribbean Tour of High School in selective Countries from Anguilla to Trinidad and Tobago, beginning September 14th 2001. The exercise dubbed Healing 2001 will be the yet another bold venture at establishing the facts about Pampo.

The primary long-term goal of the foundation would be to publish a hard cover book entitled QUEEN PAMPO in her honor; other centenarians will be captioned in that publication. The most ambitious project will however be a history School or Fortress (The Pampo History Fortress). We expect that such a fortress would be built on a portion of the land in Glanvillia where Pampo had resided for over half a century.

The foundation will comply with all the applicable laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the United States of America as pertains to such non-profit organization. Rose Peter

Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Bolden Passes At Tennessee Nursing Home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bolden, recognized as the world's oldest person, died Monday at a Memphis nursing home, not far from the Tennessee fields she and her husband farmed as teenagers almost 100 years ago.

Bolden, the daughter of former slaves, was 116. She was born Aug. 15, 1890, in rural Fayette County, east of Memphis, while Benjamin Harrison was still in the White House.

"She lived a full life and we are very, very proud of her. She had a good life," said grandson James W. Bolden, 69. "She was a dutiful Christian."

Guinness World Records recognized Bolden as the world's oldest person after the August death of Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador, also 116 but 11 months older.

Emiliano Mercado del Toro, 115, of Puerto Rico is now expected assume the title of world's oldest person, said Robert Young, a Guinness researcher. The Gerontology Research Group, an organization that tracks the ages of the world's oldest people, lists Toro's date of birth as Aug. 21, 1891.

Bolden died shortly before 1 a.m. CST at the Mid-South Health and Rehabilitation Center, a nursing home where she had lived since 1999. She suffered a stroke in 2004 and had been bedridden for several years, family members said.

Farming with her husband
But James Bolden said he remembered the grandmother he called "Mamma Lizzie" as a robust farm woman who worked beside her husband, Lewis, in the fields they began farming together in Fayette County in 1908.

"They were both 19 years old when they started," Bolden said.

Elizabeth and Lewis Bolden had seven children and raised cotton and subsistence crops on farmland near Memphis until the 1950s, James Bolden said.

Lewis Bolden died in the early 1950s and "Mamma Lizzie" moved in with relatives nearer Memphis in the 1960s, Bolden said.

"She was a strong woman," he said. "I never knew Mamma Lizzie to be sickly."

WellSpoken, I saw the above article a couple wks ago and meant to post it but had forgotten. I thought you may have been posting the same thing but I see it's an entirely different story. I decided to go ahead and post this one anyway since her case is documented to be true.

I would love to live this long only if I still had use of all my senses and limbs, could wipe my own tail, and my quality of life be well.

At 114, U.S. woman becomes world's oldest person

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Connecticut woman born to former slaves in the decades following the U.S. Civil War has become the world's oldest person, at 114, according to Guinness World Records.

Emma Faust Tillman, born near Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 22, 1892, became the world's oldest person on Wednesday, following the death of Emiliano Mercado del Toro, of Puerto Rico, Guinness said on its Web site.

Longevity is common in Tillman's family. Though none of her 23 siblings have matched her 114 years, three sisters and a brother lived past 100, her great-nephew John Stewart Jr., said on Thursday.

"At 114, she's lived a good, honorable, straight life," said Stewart, who is 76. "Her comment is always, 'If you want to know about longevity and why I lived so long, ask the man upstairs."'

Tillman, who lives in the Hartford, Connecticut, nursing home she moved to at the age of 110, was not available for an interview.

"Sometimes, she doesn't feel like talking," Stewart said. "But when you're 114, you can call your own shots."

Tillman never smoked, drank or wore eyeglasses, Stewart said.

Karen Chadderton, administrator of the Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, where Tillman lives, said until a few months ago Tillman spent much of her time caring for an ailing roommate more than 20 years her junior, who has since died.

"About a month ago, she started feeling less energetic," said Chadderton. "During the morning she has energy, she's up and about, in a wheelchair, but in the afternoon, once she goes to sleep, she doesn't want to be bothered."

According to the International Committee on Supercentenarians, there are currently 86 people aged 110 or older alive in the world today. Eighty of them are women.

The world's next-oldest resident is Japan's Yone Minagawa, born in 1893, according to the ICS. Guinness World Records said it is still investigating that claim.

I always thought it rare to reach 100, n' while it is it's not as rare as I once thought. I knew someone who's grandmother n' great aunt both lived to reach n' exceed 100. It seems as though folk who hit that age usually have 1 or 2 others in the family right up there wit' 'em. I'd be cool wit' hitin' that age, so long as I still have all my marbles n' can take care of myself.

HARTFORD, Connecticut (AP) -- Emma Faust Tillman, who was born to former slaves and lived to see 21 American presidencies, died at a nursing home just four days after becoming the world's oldest-known living person. She was 114.

Tillman, who lived independently until she was 110, died Sunday night in the company of several family members, said Karen Chadderton, administrator of Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford.

"She went peacefully," Chadderton said Monday. "She was a wonderful woman."

Tillman assumed the title as world's oldest person on Wednesday with the death of 115-year-old Emiliano Mercado del Toro of Puerto Rico, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Her four-day reign was the shortest on record, said Robert Young, senior consultant for gerontology for Guinness World Records.

With Tillman's death, the world's oldest person is believed to be Yone Minagawa of Fukuoka, Japan, who is 114, Guinness said.
