No, we need to fight back by any means neccessary and let them know that they cannot continue to do whatever they want to do to us without severe consequences.

These cops are not about to be arrest and put in jail. Believe me. I one particular South American country (I forgot the name) when a cop kills one of theirs they retaliate by killing a cop...

That takes excessive to a new level. This incident makes no sense to me at all. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time leads to tragic consequences such as these, but those officers need to be punished. It's more than an "Oops, my bad" slap on the wrists type of situation. I don't know who is worse the NY police or the LAPD. "Shoot first, ask questions later" seems to be the motto. Why are these cops so trigger happy/free with their hands??? Too many people are dying at their hands and they are supposed to be "protecting and serving" the public? Who is protecting them from us??

I see that the "war on black people" has intensified. Unless this poor victim's family and citizens provide a "dynamic and formidable" legal team, this tragedy will ultimately become another Amadou Diallo case--"justifiable HOMICIDE."

Interestingly enough, with the continual black-on-black crime, especially in specific "pockets" of a given milieu, how come the outrage is not as "vocal?" Where is the rage then? Or, have so many of us become so "desensitized" that it's become "just another day in the neighborhood?" Hmmm.

Funeral for police shooting victim

NEW YORK (AP) -- Hundreds of mourners paid their last respects Friday to the man killed on his wedding day by a barrage of 50 police bullets, attending a funeral in the same church where he was to be married to his high school sweetheart.

The service for Sean Bell, 23, took place in a Queens neighborhood seething over what residents view as rampant mistreatment of blacks by police. Bell and two companions were unarmed.

"They took his life, but we can't let them take his legacy," the Rev. Al Sharpton said, repeatedly greeted with cheers and "Amens" from the overflow crowd.

"We must give Sean a legacy. A legacy of justice, a legacy of fairness. We don't hate cops, we don't hate race, we hate wrong," he said.

Bell was killed and his two friends wounded after a bachelor party early Saturday at a strip club. It is still not clear what prompted officers to open fire on Bell's vehicle, but police apparently feared one man in the group was about to get a gun.

The five officers who fired their guns included two blacks, two whites and one Hispanic.

The Rev. Lester Williams had been preparing to lead Bell and his fiancee through their vows last week, but instead delivered the eulogy. He stressed the importance of forgiveness and urged the congregation to remain calm despite the outrage over the shooting.

"I am angry as hell, but our anger must not cause us to sin," he said.

"Ask not for whom the bell tolls. The bell tolls for Sean. The bells are ringing outrage," he added.

Earlier Friday, hundreds of mourners at Bell's wake filed past the open casket at the Community Church of Christ.

"It's sad for a young brother like that," said Joseph Barry, 20, of Brooklyn, who attended junior high school with Bell. "It's ridiculous. ... Justice needs to be done, and justice also needs to be served."

Several people outside the church held up signs reading "Justice for Sean Bell." Blue police barricades stretched for about two blocks in anticipation of a large crowd.

Prior to the wake, the relatives of two survivors from the weekend shooting also pleaded for calm.

"Please, let's respect this day, and don't cause no problems," said Denise Ford, the mother of shooting victim Trent Benefield. "We don't need no more trouble."

Benefield was in stable condition Friday. The third victim, Joseph Guzman, remained in intensive care in critical condition.

Quite ironic that Rev. Williams delivered the eulogy instead of the wedding vows. I hope the surviving family members can receive the justice they rightfully deserve.

Police indicted over NY shooting
Three New York policemen face charges over the shooting of an unarmed man on his wedding day, lawyers say.

Sean Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed last November when police fired 50 bullets into his car as he left a club after celebrating his stag night.

The shooting prompted outrage in the city and triggered accusations of racism against police.

The police officers were indicted by a grand jury. The charges are due to be revealed on Monday.

Lawyers for officers Mark Cooper, Gescard Isnora and Michael Oliver confirmed that their clients had been indicted.

Two other police officers present at the time of the shooting will not face charges, reports said.

'Lasting legacy'

The BBC's Guto Harri in New York says there is relief in the city that the officers will be prosecuted.

Three of the officers involved that night were black, two were white. Two of Mr Bell's friends, both black, were injured in the shooting.

But, our correspondent says, the killing was widely seen as a disturbing sign of racism within the New York Police Department, which is why the legal process about to take its course will be watched extremely carefully.

Lawyer Peter St George Davis, who is representing Mr Bell's parents, said that they "pray every day that somehow, out of their son's death will come a message or lasting legacy".

But Michael Palladino of the Detectives' Endowment Association said the indictments sent a "chilling message to all New York City police officers".

"You can act in good faith and there is no margin for error," he said.

Police have said they shot at the car because they feared an armed "altercation".

NYPD officers surrender in groom's death By PAT MILTON, Associated Press Writers

Three police officers surrendered Monday to face charges in a shooting that killed an unarmed groom on his wedding day.

The policemen, accused of firing most of the 50 shots at three young men in a car outside a nightclub, were being fingerprinted and processed Monday morning before their arraignment.

2 of the 3 will be charged with manslaughter and the 3rd a lesser charge. There has to be a law that says that cops will never be charged with 1st degree murder when it comes to killing black folk. So common.

What I think needs to be brought out front is the working of a grand jury. Who are these people? What evidence are they looking at? Why must they be so secret about it. For all we know, the grand jury could consist of undercover policemen. I say that because how in the world could you riddle someone with 50 bullets and it be deemed an accident.
