My son is very smart but........

Okay my son who is five years old is just too dag on smart and sometimes he uses it in school unapropriately

this is what happened yesterday they were sitting in a large group and the teacher asked the children, "Tell me a word that begins with the letter G"
and my son raises his hand and shouts,"GAY" so he had the whole class laughing and the teacher wasnt pleased she sent a note home saying that behavior will not be tolerated. Okay you may say where did he learn that word. Let me explain i talk to my children especially when they inquire about certain things these kids know more than what we think we know they know. Well my son came home one day and asked me why do men dress like woman so i told him that some men are homosexuals or gay and i explained that whole thing because his friend who is in kindergarten too told him that they are faggots so i explained that faggots was not a very nice word to say. I also told him that gay could also mean happy.

Now not only did my son say Gay but when the teacher told him that wasnt a good word he said, "why its starts with a G and i can spell it G A Y, and it means happy" now i never told him how to spell it the boy has leap frog and they allow him to make up three letter words so the boy can spell anything.

I dont think that he shouldve been in trouble please tell me what you think

Lol, thats cute. I don't think he should have got in trouble because he explained exactly what he meant by the word gay when he said it. And gay does also mean happy, so unless the definition has changed, I see no problem.
I think they should teach the other definition of gay, besides the one definition that people use to describe homosexuals. But on the other hand if someone asked me how I was doing, I wouldn't say I feeling gay today.
Still I don't think he should have got in trouble and the teacher should have explained that gay does mean happy.

He shouldn't have gotten in trouble, he followed directions. I would have told her so...she's mad b/c a baby had one up on her. I was that type of child...trust me he gets worse I mean better lol. Your son will be at the top of his class forever. I would just ask her did he or did he not do what you asked? all she can say is yes. I think she's knit picky and she wouldn't be with my child. Want me to talk to her?

I don't think that he should have been in trouble for doing just what he was asked to do. He was not being disrespectful when he answered the question & his answer was correct . I really don't understand why his teacher was so upset about it...I hope him gettng in trouble doesn't send mixed messages.

So how did the conference go?

For the record, I don't think he should have been in trouble, either. But these schools are feeling pressure from society (read: conservatives) to be politically correct. However, your son followed her directions, what more could she want?

Just to sidebar a bit, a few years ago, they were about to introduce books into the classroom, Tommy has 2 mommies, Vanessa has 2 daddies, etc. ( I don't remember the exact names, but they were for homosexual families)

What gives the school the right when it is appropriate to introduce different things into our children's lives? I'm not sure if they did it or not but it was a BIG issue.

All the teacher had to do was call mom and ask her was she aware that he knew of the word and once she said yes, back off. Especially if he used it in a constructive setting. Now calling another student gay is something else, but that little sweetie did exactly right. They better stop sleeping on our kids. This is a new time. I applaud you Naskiecenye, keep talking to your baby before someone else talks to him and messes him up by giving him wrong information. Stand your ground.

I'm curious to how the conference went too. He answered the ? gay starts with "g" and means happy. Maybe the teacher is gay (homosexual) and was offended??? I dont see what type of "behavior" the teacher was talking about, raising a hand and giving a correct answer to a question?? Isnt that what school is about.
