Family reunions are cool because you get to play catch up with all the family members. I like to listen to the old folks tell their stories about "Back In The Day" I also like that favorite aunt or uncle that shows up and knows more about you then you know yourself but hasn't seen you in over 15 years. Then has the nerve to try and dance after they've had 4 or 5 Pabst Blue Ribbon or Hamms Beers!!
All in all family reunions are a blast.

Yeah we just had one this past Memorial day. It was nice.It was at a camp ground in New Jersey and they had games for the family good food and swimming, horse back riding, basketball courts the works. I am a distant relative of the rapper Positive K. The one that had that song 'I gotta Man' What's your man got to do with me, I told ya I'm not tryin to hear that see. For anyone that remembers from back in the day. Anyways it was nice to finally meet his dad and mom. I've heard so much about him growing up. I still haven't met my cousin yet he didn't attend the reunion but he lives next door in NY so hopefully I will. it was nice to be around my family. We are close nit and all get togethers with us are memorable.

We had a family reunion in 2000 in Williamsburg VA. I did most of the planning and it was really fun. I had the hotel cater a buffet dinner on day and we had a picnic another. I even found a local DJ who spun some great tunes for a dance. Folks enjoyed the amusement park as well as Old Williamsburg.
I met some relatives that I didn't even know I had and some others that I had never seen. It was great to have that one when we did because since then two of my mom's sisters who were there have died and some of the other older folks cannot travel for a reunion any more. They are in their 80's, which is a blessing and in pretty good health, but cannot endure long car or plane trips, or fly/travel alone..
One of the hardest part of getting the reunion together was getting folks to respond to letters asking if they wanted/planned to attend.

Our last family reunion was back in 89'. A looooooong time ago. I was only 10 and I enjoyed it. We all went up to Alabama because that is where it all originated. We played alot of games, ate alot of food, I meet alot of relatives and had alot of fun.
The house is on a farm. My grandfather built the house for him and his family back when... when ... back in the late 40's or early 50's so each brick it took to build that house was laid by him. That house still stands and will be in the family forever. There is alot of land around there so we had as much room as we needed to play kickball, volleyball.. yes I said volleyball, and to just run free. The older kids were racing 4 wheelers and motorcycles while the youngsters did the activites I listed prior. There were cows, horses and bulls in the back which were a sight to see. Especially for a little city girl like me.
Even while the reunion was fun, so was the trip to get there and back. Being that most of the family moved to down here to Florida, it took us all about 16 hours to drive up to Alabama. We had 2 vans full of people and it just felt good to be surrounded by so much family. Listening to "old folk" music.. thats what us youngsters would call it. We also called it torture, but it still was a lot of fun.
Anyway, alot of people have passed on since then so I keep these memories close to me. That was our last "real" family reunion.
