Would you buy a house knowing there's a sex offender in the neighborhood? |

Would you buy a house knowing there's a sex offender in the neighborhood?
You found your perfect house, with all the amenities you wanted, it's in move-in condition, and the price is right. Now you do your research and find that there is a registered sex offender in the neighborhood. Would you buy it?
Even if you don't have children, would you worry about being able to sell the house later when you're ready to move?

I don't think I would. I would be more concern about my safety rather than being able to sell the house later on.

The truth is they are everywhere. They dont have to put on a bow and tie and tap dance down the street saying "I'm here!" But as long as they register they are following laws. I honestly wouldnt move into the neighborhood. I have a young son, and he has cousins that would be visiting from time to time. I want them to be able to play outside with out the worry of someone preying on them right outside their door.

I would not buy it armed with that information. I don't have any children but I would be concerned for any of my neighbors children being subject to being harmed by the offender. I would not be concerned about resale value when buying a house.

I would not, as others have stated esp. if I had children. Moreover, why not move them ALL to the desert, for in my opinion, when their crimes were committed, their civil liberties became "null and void." At least there might be a better tracking system. I hold no compassion for individuals like these.

Knowing there's a sex offender in the neighborhood, I would not buy a home... but then again where will I? Sex offenders are everywhere seem like. Safety is important but even when you think you are doing what's best and taking all precautions, out of the blue evil and/or tragedy strikes. I would still do all I can to lower my odds though.

Its funny because although my first thought is "HELL NO", I have to be logical. I could find the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood, in the perfect school district with perfect neighbors and a perfect picket fence in the front, and a sex offender could move down the street before I could even unpack! It happens and they (sex offenders) are everywhere.
What are ya gonna do?

I agree. What we do is keep an eye on our children...in our neighborhood, in school, in church, in the grocery store.....etc. ad infinitum.
