Improve or not?
Did you improve, or do you intend to improve on the parenting job that your own parents did with your kids? Or do you think your kids deserve what ever you got?
Do you have knowledge of your own parents upbringing? Did they improve or just give you what ever they got? (not part of the poll)

umm i learned what not to do with my children watching the ppl who raised me
uhhh where do i start
1. when i was five my mother got locked up for stabbing a woman and since she was on probation she did a little time
2. My sister raised me the best way she knew how but i saw her get beat up and abused
3. My mother came home when i was about 8 and became a full blown crack head
4. She died of aids when i was 10 oh boy i miss her so
5. I was sent to live in philly with my grandmother aunt and uncle
6. My grandmother was like 80 and died the next year when i was 11
7. my aunt was a weed head that didnt give a damn about me
8. My uncle was a drunk and didnt give and damn about me
Through all of that i stand tall as a successful black woman i'm only 22 years old but i was forced to grow up really fast i have my own place i raise my children with the one that i love and i love life
i hope that answers your question (smile)

Yes I definietly improved my parenting skills, my mother did an excellent job because we all turned out ok, but she was just so easy, she was a softy and didn't disipline us hardly at all.....but I try to be fair with my kids but still disipline them as need it...but all and all my parents did a wounderful job :D

I think my mother did a wonderful job. Yeah there are certain things she could have did better on, but I still have the best mom on the block. She was strict when she needed to be...funny...sweet...a friend...she guided me. Very open relationship...so I want to be like her in a lot of ways. Parenting doesn't come with a guide so you do what you feel is best at that time.

My response.....
My parents did improve on their own parents behaviours. They cut out the unnecessary bullshit and kept what they felt were good parenting tactics.
My parents were no where near perfect. I do have a solid list of things I will not do to my children. They also did many things right...including being mature enough to know that simply doing to us what was done to them, is not the best thing for the children. They could have easily taken out their anger from what they went thru in childhood on us...but opted to try and control their tempers (to a degree) and not go as far as their own parents went with the discipline part of parenting. They got BETTER results than their own parents....especially in my dads case. :D
I will follow in their steps in that I will improve on the parenting that I recieved as a child....in that way they were excellent role modles for me. (other ways too...but that is the most impressive)

I don't know much about how my parents were raised, but as far as the way they raised me I learned alot. I'd like to think I know what and what not to do once I have my own children, but truth is you won't know and you are in that moment. I do plan to have better communication, understanding and disciplinary skills with my children than my parents had with me. I'm just going to do my best with whatever situations are presented and hope that when my children have children, they have learned what to do with their children from me.

My parents improved on their parents parentling styles, as my sister and I are attempting to improve on our parents parenting styles. (Why does that sound like a tongue-twister?) My grandparents were from the "hit first, ask wuestions later school." My parents spanked us, but they also calmed down and talked to us about what we did and why it was wrong. My sister and I are taking the explain, set limits, THEN knock them out route. :)
