Lizaa I understand what you are saying and I do see what you mean, but with all due respect, I do not disrespect my aunt in anyway by calling her by her first name alone, nor do I put her on my level. I could tell her to kiss my butt and just by putting a title in front of her name doesnt make the statement any more respectful.
I know my example might be a far stretch from what you are saying, but I was taught to respect her period, above any title put in front of her name. I still say my yes/no ma'am/sir, ms, mr and so on, but its not habitual.
This is just me though. I dont know why my family didn't zero in on titles, but I tell you this, none of us have crossed any of our aunts or uncles the way I've seen it be done these days.
My nieces call me auntie all day, then turn around and tell me how things are going to be and what I can do.
