It happened one evening on a humid Wednesday in July
I had just come home from work.
My wife and three young daughters met me at the door they were all trying to tell me about the BIG WEEL INCIDENT at the same time.
I told them to calm down and tell me what happened my wife cut in, she told me that
My little boy who was 4 years old at the time was playing with the little white boy
Who lived down the street they were both taking turns riding my sons big wheel,
When my son unintentionally ran over the little white boys foot and he ran home crying
Well the boys mother came down to our house - her and my wife had words
I was told that her husband was going to come down to my house and do all of us in.
I told everyone to go into the back room and wait there until I tell them to come out
We lived in a mostly white neighborhood and we knew they didn't want me or my
Family there.
I got my 12 gage pump shot gun out of hiding along with a 357 magnum I went into the
Kitchen and fixed a large plate of spaghetti I laid the shotgun in the corner
Sat down to the dinner table in the dinning room and placed the hand gun in my lap
As I began to put the first spoon full of spaghetti in my mouth there was a loud
Knock at the door.
I shouted who is it the voice replied loudly Jim.
I replied come in and in he came standing about 6ft, before I could say anything
He began to shout.

Before I knew it I had turned the table over, the plate of spaghetti went flying in the
Living room and up came the gun I fired just missing his head the shell slammed into
The living room wall leaving a whole the size of a golf ball in the wall and a crater
Outside the house the size of a large dinner plate.
He had moved backwards to fast as I moved around the dinner table he was already
Out the door tearing the screen door from its top hinge I slide down in the spaghetti
Sauce and got up from the floor when I got to the door he was half way home
Yelling for his wife to open the door, people say white men can’t jump
But I know for a fact they can not only jump they can fly too.
After the gun fire and my BAD A…S guest had left 4 police cars showed up.
They stopped to his house first to find out what had happened
Then they walked to my house while one car followed the men on foot
I was seated on the sofa with the hand gun laying by my right side and the
Registration papers for the guns on my left the shotgun leaning on my sofa to
My left.
They knocked on the door I said come in one office said is it safe to come in I replied
Yes.
They stepped in two of them began to shine flash lights around in the living room
And at the overturned table and hole in the wall.
Another said he was told I just tried to shoot someone I said I did
He asked me if I knew the man I had tried to shoot was his brother
I replied I didn't give-a- F….k.
The other two officers escorted him outside and began to talk to him the one that was
Left with me asked if the fight was over I replied yes it is.
My wife and children was standing behind the corner wall peeping.
The officer ask how many shots I had fired and I replied one
He also asked if I was trying to kill him, I replied yes.
He stepped outside and all four officers returned to the mans house
There was an argument between the officer and his brother and the brothers wife
The officer called his brother stupid for entering the home of a mad black man
With a gun.
The mans wife tried to defend her husband but, she was told to shut the f…k up
And the officer accused her of trying to get his brother killed.
My wife had called my mother after hearing the gun fire my mother called my
Brothers soon even before the police was gone from the mans house, my brothers
And friends pulled up to my house three car loads of men.
The police watching 10 mad black men get out of cars with guns they all came inside
The message they had gotten was I had been shot I told them what happened
They returned to their cars without incident and drove off the police did not follow
Them.
This happened in the late 70s my advice to anyone faced with this kind of incident
If something like this happens to you don’t do what I did.
Take your time and don’t put the hole in the wall.
