Congratulations! Your new family is going to work out great.

-- It is not your job to replace your stepson's father. Do not discourage any feelings he still has for his birth father. You and your stepson will work out, together, the details of exactly what your relationship is to be.

-- It is not your new wife's job to replace your son's deceased mother. Let them work out, together, the details of exactly what their relationship is to be.

-- Do not denigrate your stepson's birth father in front of him, not even to agree with something his mama said.

-- Make sure that you work out with your new wife, before you say I Do, exactly what she expects your role to be as far as disciplining your stepson and exactly what you expect her role to be as far as disciplining her stepson.

-- Do not treat your stepson as if his being deaf is a handicap. Make a conscious effort to act as if he is what he is -- a perfectly normal boy.
