All of this is not a one time thingee. You talk them and your spouse talk to 'em and the grandparents talk also. Because where they might do their little bobble head thing like they're gitting what yer saying, but they're not to you. Grannie might say sumpthin that the light bulb comes on.
Do what you can to stem temptation, and know your child. Give them protection and don't bury your hand in the sand,as parents. Hopefully they'll talk to an adult in that family about their sexuality. Obviously, it's probably going to be after the fact. Ha! Ha! But,perhaps they used protection,or maybe they bailed, because it just wasn't their right time. Keep 'em loaded with activities and talk talk talk! Pray!

Us as in parents and guardians. I would extend it to laws and legislation if we governed our ownselves and our children at those levels.

This sounds like my oldest. While he doesn't have a girlfriend or anyone he's interested in right now, he's told me that its getting harder for him to abstain from sex. He says he would prefer to be with a black women (really, his own words) instead of a hispanic or white but it's hard because its not that many at his school and the one's there like the so called thugs.
But in the meantime, he humps his mattress (his brother told on him) and chokes his bird. I am glad his schedule is busy were he doesn't have time to dwell on it too much.

talk to your children, and stop all this assuming they will do the right thing! We know what we were feeling at that age. The black community lacks knowledge on how best to approach a situation like this, and some black people will not seek help.
Just like Tupac wrote: Brenda's got a Baby
but know we are singing: Brenda's got HIV!

This is key. Keep them busy with plenty of extracurricular activities and creativity!

Dragon - I've always thought that keeping them busy kept their minds on other things.
With this being his last year in HS and the fact that his life will change, I am sure that the opportunity will come up for it to happen and hopefully the conversations we've had (and continue to have) will help him make the right choices when the time comes.

I talk to my kid all the time about the responsiblity of sexual actions and sexual ingorance. I also talk about the importance of sex for the right reason as well as sexual education. I talk to my child not at my child about sex. I let my child know that I will answer any and all questions. The sex started early and often with my kid.

if your child is curious about sex,the best thing to do, is take him or her, to the nearest health clinic, and show them the results if you go out and have sex with folks.. show them health booklets, and let them talk to sex education teachers etc...because these days it's best to be safe than sorry because that monster name AIDS and his buddies, herpes, genital warts, and hepititis c is out there and it shows no mercy, and theres no cure for neither one.
