The Word "Huh"
I took the lil people out to dinner tonight and there was this family sitting across from our table. There were 4 bebes kids sitting with this particular family and everytime the parent asked them what it was they wanted from the kiddie menu, they kept responding with the word "HUH".
Now maybe (just maybe), they've taken their children out to dinner before.. But then again maybe not. Now usually when you take your kiddos out they get the kiddie menu and have a visual of what they'd like to eat. But each time the waitress asked each of them (meaning the kids), they kept looking at her and saying "HUH"?
my siblings and I were always to taught to say Excuse Me, or Could You Please Repeat That? When we were coming up. This ordeal went on for maybe 10 minutes if not longer and we could tell the waitress was getting a lil upset and her tip wasn't going to look that good coming from table 12.
Finally the parents ordered for them and I hope all went well. But it annoys me when a child says "HUH". Are they not taught how to respond in a more tactic manner? :frown:

I dont remember eating out much with my parents...but my mom always made sure she knew what we wanted before calling the waitress over. When we were older we ordered ourself. Those parents should not have wasted the waitresses time like that especially if the restaurant was full and she was expected to cover several tables at once.

You live and you learn
I think that this was a learning experience for those young children and the parents weren't wrong for giving them a chance to order themselves, we should never discourage our children from being independant. Hopefully the parents took this experience as a life learned lesson and maybe the next time they would have taught the children how to order and how to be polite and courteous. I think that its a learning process and they will get it eventually just like you did, believe me you wasnt born with manners your momma taught you just like everybody else and you may have been the same way at some point in time. I catch my children doing things all the time that even though i've taught them not to do it they have to be reminded on occasions. They'll get it I betcha

Forget about ordering food, I wish I would say huh to my parents! That's a huge no no. I was always taught to say no/yes maam and no/yes sir.
But like stated above my parents already knew what we ordering before we called the waitress/waiter over.

Huh?
I believe people should say "Excuse Me", "Could You Please Repeat That" or a simple "I'm sorry, What Did You Say".

My kids do that sometimes ...huh... I always wonder where they pick that stuff up at and i have to repeatedly get on them about saying it ....and yeah when I go out I usually do the same with my kids find out what they want before the waiter or waitress comes to the table ... but just to let yall in on a lil secret kids will do as much as you allow them to get away with ....nip it in the bud so u wont have to go through it later .... just my 2 cents
peace
