I've never belonged to a credit union. Do people generally use credit union funds for car loans or things of that nature?

Yes, car loans, personal loans mortgage loans and other services are offered by credit unions. I have been a member of a credit union since 1978 and I have taken out many loans over the years. I currently have my mortgage through my credit union. Credit unions are member owned so they are much different than banks. Banks are in the business to make money for themselves. They tend to charge you for many of the services that credit unions do free.

Yep CKIII, you hit it on the head. I've been a member of a credit union since 95.

And those Credit Counseling places won't work.. They'll charge ya more.!!

I have an account with the South Carolina Federal Credit Union. I don't make a habbit of buying on credit I prefer to pay cash.

I did for a short while when I was a naive student in Philadelphia (went to Temple Univ. for a year). I was with Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, the operative word here being was. Had a lot of problems with them. Turned me off from becoming a credit union member ever again. Bank One is fine with me.
