Women Now Outnumber Men Online

At first reading this it was a shocker, then I thought about it some and realized it really made alot of sense. According to this study, not only do women outnumber Men Online in the past year, but more importantly (or alarmingly), black women outnumber us brothas using the internet.

The Study:

The Internet was dominated by men in its early days, but by 2000 and continuing on to today, the user population has been evenly divided between men and women. Further, the proportion of women online is nearly equal to that of men. A review of the findings of the Pew Internet & American Life surveys between March 2000 and September 2005 highlights some particularly interesting trends and correlations: Young women are more likely to be online than young men. And black women have surged online in the last three years.

Summary of findings:
  • Pew Internet Project surveys between January and June in 2005 show that 67 percent of the adult American population goes online, including 68 percent of men and 66 percent of women. But women slightly outnumber men in the Internet population because they make up a greater share of the overall U.S. population.
  • Younger women are more likely than younger men to be online; older men are more likely than older women to be online: 86 percent of women ages 18-29 are online, compared with 80 percent of men that age. On the other hand, 34 percent of men 65 and older use the Internet, compared with 21 percent of women that age.
  • Black women are more likely than are black men to be online: 60 percent of black women are Internet users compared with 50 percent of black men.
  • Unmarried men are more likely than unmarried women to be Internet users. 62 percent of unmarried men compared with 56 percent of unmarried women go online. Married women are slightly more likely than married men to be online. 75 percent of married women and 72 percent of married men go online.
  • Men without children under age 18 are more likely than women without children under age 18 to be online. Some 61 percent of childless men compared with 57 percent of childless women go online. Men and women with minor children are equally likely to be online. Some 81 percent of men with children and 80 percent of women with children go online.
------

So can we draw any meaning or inferences from this data? I think so. From a black perspective, our sistahs are already outpacing us in education. I have long been an advocate of us getting computers into our homes. And to see a study like this warns of our sistahs widening the economic and educational gap between sistahs and brothas. This could mean potential challenges for the black family in the future.

That's why men on the internet have taken women's mantra and made it their own..."So many women, so little time."

If I had a woman I would spend less time on the Internet.

Get a woman from AfroChat. Most of them are single. Just PM the one that you feel like is attractive and go from there.

A nation can rise no higher than its woman and as the bar keeps moving we too (women) must keep abreast (no pun intended) with the changes. So I think it augurs well for our nation if our mothers & future mothers are in the KNOW and outpacing the brothers. For those with businesses this data should now aid you in effectively targetting your message to this growing female audience.
