computer laptops and notebooks

Hello all, does anyone know which laptop or notebook would be a good buy?
I am looking for a laptop or notebook to buy. I want one that is user friendly. I do not want to pay and arm and a leg for it either. I will be using it for school. I want it to be medical friendly as well. I think I will need a lot of memory space as well. So can anyone help me out by telling which ones are good ones?

I am in the same jam. I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for a notebook but I think I will have too. I've noticed since attending Grad school that everyone has apple notebooks. I have read about them and I really like what they can do. However more of them cost over $1,000.00. I have a laptop right now but I really need to get rid of it. The screen is starting to get messed up and my desktop isnt working right now. I think I might just have to suck it up and pay the big bucks for the apple and just use my student discount.

I know the apple has wireless internet, DVD/CD, burn CD's and so much more.

If you already have an idea or know of a laptop model you would like, you can use the Internet to search for competitive prices from different vendors then evaluate if you're willing to purchase from them or not.

A few places that have good deals:

NewEgg
Tiger Direct

Places to compare prices of items you like:
Price Grabber
Froogle

Personally I've got my eye on those Notebook/Tablet PC hybrids but money is tight for me. Good Luck

Okay ya'll don't laugh...

but I ordered my Laptop from QVC. I didn't have the money to put up front, and they allow you do pay it out in 4 payments(interest free), without waiting before you get the product. I got a nice Dell, with everything that I wanted on it plust a carrying case :) Unlike ordering through Dell directly, you get a 3 year warranty vs. 90-day or 1-year.

* 1.6GHz Intel Pentium M processor 725A
* 15.4" diagonal UltraSharp display
* 512MB DDR2 SDRAM
* 60GB hard drive
* 8X CD/DVD+RW/-RW drive
* Intel Pro Wireless 2200
* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
* six-cell lithium-ion battery
* Windows XP Professional Edition
* MS Works Suite 2005
* Norton Internet Security
* AC adapter
* nylon carrying case

Check them out..they have Dells and Toshiba's

I went through Dell and you can get monthly pymts as low as 18 bucks. Let them know what school u attend and they will wire it for your school and some places get discounts.

That particular one was 374... 4 Payments. I've seen others for around 250.

I saw the one on QVC over the weekend. Please tell me how it works out for you. I also went on the sites that Gorilla gave and found some nice ones in my price range I am going to look into them as well. I also saw some PDA's that I liked. I am going to check them out also. I still have not figured out the difference between a laptop and a notebook. So I ask what is the difference does anybody know?

Dell, IMHO always has the best prices on laptops. They are full of options and features for the price.

Frequent slickdeals.net daily, and you will catch the big sales that Dell has often. They are known to routinely give 20-40% off on laptops, but the window of opportunity is narrow.

As far as what to look for in a laptop at a very minimum:
  • If Intel Pentium CpU; minimum 2.4ghz.
  • Wireless capability; great for metro areas and college campuses.
  • 2 USB Ports minimum; the more the merrier.
  • 15" display minimum with 1600x1200 resolution @ 32bit color
  • DVD RoM so you can watch movies and use larger capacity discs for storage.
  • 512mb RAM (1/2gb). Trust me, it makes a big difference in the performance.
  • 2 year warranty minimum.
