Open Office 2 vs Microsoft Office

"We asked our contributing writer David Johnston to do a full review of OpenOffice 2.0. He has been a longtime user of the product (and in fact an earlier version lost some of his important data.) In the meantime, we pointed to a review that PC Magazine did which is also comprehensive (see below), but for RealTechNews readers, please take a look at what David has to report, because this is no try it for a few days and write something up review. This is a complete hands-on review from someone who has used the product religiously for years. And I think you’ll see why OpenOffice 2.0 truly Kicks MS Office around the block."

yay for open source :)

I've been using open office for a while myself and its great, I know there are more options than MS but I have not as yet got into them.

For many basic tasks, open Office is an awesome product. Especially for it's price=FREE!

But just at first glance, it lacks Wizards which are very helpful to users. It also lacks customizability and hassle free update capabilities.

But hey, it's FREE. And many of it's features rival that core featureset of MSOffice.

It opens up word documents. I don't think there is a convertor for Corel Office. But you can work with office docs in Open Office. Microsoft apps will not open up native Open Office files however.
