RFID-enabled credit card hacking

Quote:
A number of credit card companies now issue credit cards with embedded RFIDs (radio frequency ID tags), with promises of enhanced security and speedy transactions.

But on today's episode of Boing Boing tv, hacker and inventor Pablos Holman shows Xeni how you can use about $8 worth of gear bought on eBay to read personal data from those credit cards -- cardholder name, credit card number, and whatever else your bank embeds in this manner.

Fears over data leaks from RFID-enabled cards aren't new, and some argue they're overblown -- but this demo shows just how cheap and easy the "sniffing" can be.

This episode is part of our ongoing series of interviews with some of the thinkers, hackers, and tinkerers at the O'Reilly Emerging Technology conference this year.
Source with an included video: How to hack RFID-enabled credit cards for $8 - Boing Boing TV

This is almost as interesting as the potential technique demonstrated a while back to hack security cards to buildings. The means to implement them are very cheap and widely available. Bad implementations of this technology is proving to be a potential liability.

You need a wallet made like a Faraday Cage to prevent unauthorized RF access.

The more complex the technology gets the more ways there are for the smart people to rip off the dumb people. The corporations are going to promote what best serves their interests. They are either going to minimize or not mention the downside to the consumers.

I have been wonder how to build a phony RFID transmitter. With RFIDs in your clothes you could be tracked every time you walk through a door.

Ignorance is a Bitch!

A short while back, I read that coins were going to be minted with these chips inside of them. Other than monitoring, tracking and minding peoples business, I dont really see the use for it. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Im going to hit google up for some info so that I may be able to offer some real details.

RFIDs are just yet another example of why left brain western technology is not an indication of an advanced civilization, but rather of a paranoid delusional culture addicted to enslavement of the masses.

Any day now, the dirty rotten scoundrels who seek to control us are going to manipulate some current event, probably staged, to scare us into allowing RFIDs to be implanted into our bodies --- something that may well have been predicted in Revelations 13:16.

It would not surprise me to learn that RFIDs are already implanted within our newly designed, weird-looking, paper money.
