I don't know if I have any favorites. I'm always trying to read something new, so I have a new favorite all the time. Right now it's maybe China Mieville. They guy writes some creepy stuff. Check out The Scar or Perdido Street Station.

I see there are some other Octavia Butler fans here. She is my favorite by far. I also like Zadie Smith and Walter Mosley.

Though I have read tons of books I previously eschewed fiction. So far my favorites are Tony Morrison and Ralph Ellison.

Must I choose just one? Only one? Impossible! Hmmmm...okay then, my favorite novelist (this month) is Rebecca Walker. But I reserve the right to change my "favorite" on a monthly basis.

I can't just choose one. I am an avid reader and value all of my books as I do my children. But just to name a few Brenda Jackson, Octavia Butler, Tananarive Due, E Lynn Harris, L. A. Banks, Pearl Cleage, Lolita Files...the list could go on....
