Exactly and I agree. Hence the reason Its shows our lack of knowledge and willingness as well as hastiness in praising something, simply because they are black. We have to understand ALOT of black people in history were not necessarily for US> And that especially includes most MEN that participated in those early years of the military, that are celebrated. Many didn't have a choice in the matter, but usually when they become decorated all of these years later by the Government, I am almost certain there was something in it for them. Case in point! Our brothers going out west, to slaughter the Indigenous peoples, to make that land available for the White Man to fulfill his "Manifest Destiny" akka money, money,money.

They were not mercenaries they were soldiersmy Grandmother slept with one for more then 70 years he died in her arms in june 1968.

Then it's safe to say you do not praise the native american who for more then 100 years
kept blackmen and woman as, and were slave catchers for that same white man.
Prase the man who became a soldier in the hope of becoming a freeman, and building a better life for hemself, his people ,and his family. the native american was not a friend of the Blackman then or now.

It is not that we do not know our history. It is that we choose not to know those aspects of our history that are inconvenient truths.

We know we have, so often, been victimized by white men who behaved like beasts. And, we are cool with considering them to be monsters.

But, we are not yet secure enough in our image of Who I AM to look, honestly, at both the good and not so good colors in the tapestry of Afrikan history.

We will get there, but it is going to take some time. Those of us who have been given clear vision have a duty to keep ringing the bell in the village square --- without becoming insufferably self-righteous in the process.

They suffered and suffer from the same sick mentality that we did/do due to slavery, conquest, colonialism, destruction of culture and way of living by the pale man (beast).

True dat. We point out that the beasts among white people did all this to us, which is wholly accurate. But, it doesn't serve to change our current condition for the better. Hating, and judging, white people has become an addictive behavior of ours which distracts us from fixing us.

Our celebration of the Buffalo Soldiers is just one of many indications of our addiction to self-destruction. We hold up as heros black people who did the same thing to other non-white people that white people did to us.

Hence, we support a black man, Obama, who is wholly commited to the War on Terror -- even though we know it is really a war against non-european oil-producing countries.

And, before Obama, we held up Colin Powell as a hero. As with Obama, many of us entertained thoughts of Powell becoming the first black POTUS. This, even though Powell's claim to fame was that he helped white people kill Asians during the Vietnam War and then went on to help white people kill Arabs during Papa Bush's war against Iraq.
