Does anyone know of this man's ethnicity? I asked because his hair looks like ours (which isn't enough to make him black). He accompanied Napoleon to Egypt along with the black General Dumas. He invented the modern pencil. I can't find anything online about his origins.

i looked him up too. it don't speak too much of his birth parents nor where he come from. but from looking at his pic he looks like a white man to me. and then again he could pass for white with black blood in him.

Yeah he is probably a John Turturro, mediterranean type. Also the French would have acknowledged him as a black man, like they did the Dumas family.
