You have a right to vent and say what you have to say. I do believe that in order for us to go beyond, we must learn our African or Black American History. If we had actual knew the history of "Tupac" as a race of people, many would have understood some of his lyrics. You mention Assata Shakur and many of "us" have never heard of her. For those who don't know, she is the aunt of the "Late Tupac Shakur". She is currently Exile in Cuba (
http://www.assatashakur.org/), because she escape the prision from New Jersey because they said she killed a state trooper with some members of the black liberation army members. Dr. Mutulu Shakur (
http://www.thuglifearmy.com/news/?id=2733)who is Tupac's mother husband. Dr. Shakur was his father figure or father. He was Black Panther which his mother was a member of. Afeni Shakur (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afeni_Shakur) she was part of the Panther 21, she defended herself while pregnant with Tupac and got herself released from prison. They stated that the Panther 21 was trying to blow up landmarks in New York City. She defended herself in court during a bomb conspiracy trial and was acquitted of 156 counts against her and other members of the Black Panther Party. No evidence was found to support the charges.
Afeni is contibuted to creating the following quote:
"Remember the most important thing in life is to keep yourself alive"
Those are just a small sampling of our history. It is my hope that we will start celebrating African Amercian history 365 days a year instead of only looking forward to 28 days in February. We must add other individuals to the list of those who made a contribution, in additional to the ones that have been passed down to us.
