In reading the statement made i'm not sure what to think because i'm a newbie to the site and have no and i mean no direction. Thank you for your post. I joined October 2005, and just started posting this month. The first reason is, after initially finding this community and registering, I forgot how to get back here because I hadn't bookmarked the page, then found it again (accidentally) when using the Google search. After finding it, I came back from time to time and would just read the posts and looked about.

Like you, I STILL haven't seen most of what is here. Also, I have been in other communities where people are attacked viciously for posting something that the attackers didn't agree with. I am not going to be a part of anything where I must be degraded or attacked for my views or beliefs.

I had to first see how people treated each other, and if meanness were a normal all the time kind of thing, was it hopefully not at all, or even just occasionally. I needed to know this before I started adding anything to the posts. This is what I always do when I join a community.

I don't care that people disagree, I just care about how they treat others who do happen to disagree. I'm not into drama and arguing about anything or swapping insults with others. That is not my style and I am accustomed to conducting myself in a manner of respect towards others and I like to be respected in return. Before I'll swap insults, and be a party to an ongoing "feud," or get involved in "flaming," I just ignore the insults and the insulter as well. I'm here to enjoy, relate, relax, release, hopefully share, as well as learn, from the residents of this community.

Attacking a point of view is one thing, but attacking the person is quite a different matter altogether. So, I'm guilty of being here for several months without posting, but I'm not a troll, a parasite, or "pimpee" (Finally, I am a bit shy as well and have to "warm up" before I jump in). My 2 cents and thank you for the opportunity.

ladyNoir, your comments should be framed an posted in the AfroChat hall of fame. Thanks for you candid and uplifting words. I wish that all of messageboarders could get to see this and try to follow your philosophy.

There's certainly nothing wrong with being a member that rarely comments. Everyone doesn't have to have the same personality. I thank you for shedding more light on the issue.
