Have alot to say, please post as an article.
Lately there has been a significant increase in post daisychaining. This is when someone makes a post, and replies to that post to either add to or respond to their own comments. This is done by many to circumvent the size limit on posts.
This limit on posts is by design. If you have alot to say, please post your writings as an article in our AfroArticles section. Your articles can be rated, discussed and debated as are regular posts. You also receive cash for each article posted. Your articles are also searchable via all search engines.
Our staff simply do not have the time to police the entire board to watch for these posts. If we find a daisychained post, we will delete it, and you will not be notified. Put yourself in our shoes, and you will understand why we have to set rules on organization.
Furthermore, It's been proven time and time again, the longer your posts, the less likely others will read it, and/or respond to it. Resident's expect deeper and more indepth content in the Articles section.
I know most don't read the rules, but I hope that all of you will take some time to do so please.
Thanks!

I make the effort to at least put spaces between my comments in a post. Hopefully they aren't too long. When I run across a post that goes on for days, I don't read the entire post. There are only so many hours in the day.

With a little effort, any response can fit inside one post.

Here are some tips that may help you: - Instead of posting large amounts of data referenced from another site, provide a link instead; paraphrasing or summarize, etc...
- Structure your argument. Know one likes to do this, but when you do, it forces you to eliminate parts of your post that don't effectively serve any point.
- Instead of quoting large parts of the bible, just give chapter and verse. Most people are not going to read it all anyway. And if they are really into the discussion, they will take the time to look up your reference.
- Proofreading. The more content you post, the more likely that proofreading will provide an opportunity to delete or truncate your post without hurting it's meaning or points of expression.
- Put yourself in the post reader's shoes. Ever hear someone make a speech, and they seem to go on and on and on? While they may be providing alot of information, they are dragging it out, and therefore you lose interest and can't wait till they finish. Sometimes really long posts can feel that way to others reading it. We don't want people to ignore what we take the time to present, so it's to our advantage to make it as concise as possible.
Hope this helps.

Makes sense to me. I understand trying to conserve bandwith etc.
I think that the reason (for me. I have done it at other sites (here?) and the reason was, on some software, if you do that, it places your topic on the homepage, and more people see it.
I started doin it coz on this one site, there was this person who was a mad poster fa sho! she would post like 8 or 9 a day in one forum and hit 5 or 6 forums a day! Posting was her life. So with this software, all her topics (like 30 of them; really, no less than 20 per day!) would run yo lil ish off the face of da earth. if you posted a topic that day, it was unseen most of the time. The only way folks would kno of your what you thought was interesting, is if they clicked your profile tab where they listed your lastest contribs. Most folx dont do that; I dont do it often.
It was really crazy. I havent ran thru there in a while coz I got tired of contribing and it just vaporizing into oblivion before my eyes, basically.
Oh well. Enuff ranting...(**sigh**) :i need a
But if Im guilty of this, and any of the above, Im sorry and will not do it again*

Thx Benz,
Good points Benz. My concern however, is not so much bandwidth; our board software is very efficient in that regard. The concern here is really in desigining and maintaining a discussion forum conducive to...discussion. Long posts often have no value in thread conversation. For many reasons that I don't want to repeat again, or someone will flame me for spamming.
Another way of thinking about a discussion in a thread is to relate it to a room of people having an actual discussion in a room. If one person was to get the floor and talk on and on and on, regardless of how relevant their talk was, others in the room would lose interest, and ultimately, no longer participate in the discussion.
I would like to happily add, that I've successfully installed a hack that prevents doubleposting, aka self-replying.

Dang. You had to go and install a hack for what people could do themselves. I know I've done it a few times, but I wasn't and am not consistant with it.
