it shouldnt but I have to be honest, for me it does matter somewhat..,I think it has to do with my upbringing, Dad worked outside the house to care for us ,Mom worked inside to take care of us.equally important..but as long as in the relationship each respect the others career and sees that their spouse is content doing what they do,and are contributing to the happiness on all levels of the union,be it money or whatever else..then it shouldnt even come up really, right?? I mean,look at me and my wife for instance.I can make decent money as a Electrician,and I have..but I dont get as much satisfaction out of what I do,I mean I offer a service to people, which is cool, But my wife,she makes half of what I do,and she really loves what she does!!Im looking into another career in phys therapy,or social work,may need to take a pay cut,but I feel I'll be alot happier.I have always made more income than she has,but soon the tables may be turned.
I Wont know for sure how Id feel until that day happens.But we both work towards the same goals.Id like to make more than her truthfully..but Id like to make more than anyone I know!(competition I guess)
