Right now I'm using Ubuntu (7.10 I havent upgraded yet). I usually prefer gnome, xfce, or fluxbox. KDE isn't my thing, but I may give the most recent version that came out a try. Both projects have extensive websites that will explain a great deal about them and from the screenshots you can kind of see where they draw their influence from. As for livecds, I usually use livecds with a purpose (although I used to like Knoppix a great deal to), such as Backtrack (pentesting), Helix (forensics),DNALinux(bioinformatics) and AnonOS (Based on Unix built for privacy and security).

I might be moving back to my slackware or gentoo roots, but I'm still thinking things over.
