You increase your geographical and economic area while continuing to solidify your powers politically.

You check their tax records to the owning entity, tax records are public, and easier to see if they are a mom and pop establishment. Obviously, major franchises are for the most part, white or jewish, but ceasing to purchase from these establishments and finding the smaller diners or restaurants which serve cultured food, they are obviously owned by Nubians.

To figure out what business to start, look to see what is already there in your area. From what I remembered of my former home [Brooklyn, NYC] there were too many beauty shops and supply chains, clothing stores, liquor stores, restaurants, chicken shops, music stores, and pawn shops. There weren't enough book stores, recreation centers, and specifically, movie theaters.

All businesses when they first start out do poorly, it takes awhile to gain a substantial following while taking business away from the already established machine. Usually, they find their niche, or close their business. If they have razor thin profits, the reason is probably from the above. The most popular store types in urban communities are usually 2-3 on a commercial block and compete amongst themselves while bigger chains are also there with them.
