How is this mentality "dangerous" and what are the "better" ways (per you) to "perserve" us?

For the first part, observe the history of human beings filled with examples of its destructive obsession.
For the second part, continue to pass on our legacy regardless on the merits of a person's heart and not the "purity" of their blood. Plenty of groups of people out there maintain culture across notions of "race".
There are some more direct methods and tangible, of course. Patron black business, get your hands dirty volunteering, get involved with your local community, find a cause and get behind it, use whatever talents you can to help improve conditions, start a black library, and any of the countless other sustainable things which lead to true lasting prosperity and and a person can conceive of doing.
