How To Build an Automated Emergency Restore Disk!

This is one of those things that many people wish they could do, but can't. Well, I'm going to put together a comprehensive set of articles for the AfroFam that will walk you through creating a clone disk and using it to restore it to you pc in the even of an emergency.

What is an ERD? For the scope of this multi part series, an ERD is a CD or DVD that will allow you restore your core functionality of OS functionality in a worst case scenario.

What is Core Functionality?
Well, that's your essential set of applications that you need to get back running. It's NOT your entire hard drive that may be 160GB of apps, pics, mp3 and other things. Remember, we want to be able to restore from a disk, not a file server. We'll touch more on this later.

Required Software.
In order to make all of this work, we'll need several peices of software:
  • UltraISO
  • WinPE
  • 32Bit Ghost executable [ghost32.exe]
  • DVD/CD writer software capable of burning bootable images.

What are the Steps?
  1. Test WinPE
  2. Build PC Image of core apps.
  3. Clone Image
  4. Build ERD
  5. Burn ERD to CD or DVD
  6. Test ERD
This procedure, once completed willl restore your system in minutes, whereas a manual reinstall would take hours.

This tutorial will consist of a new Thread for Each Part. Below are the links if you want to jump to each Part of the Tutorial. Use the thread of the appropriate Part for questions and comments.

Part I - Gathering Required Software.

Of course, use this thread for any questions.
